About the J-1 Student Intern Program

The J-1 Student Intern program at OU is designed for graduate or undergraduate students who are currently pursuing a degree program outside the US, and who wish to participate in an internship opportunity in the US that fulfills an educational objective of their degree program.

Student Interns

  • Graduate or undergraduate student outside the U.S.
  • Proof of English proficiency (TOEFL, IELTS, or interview)
  • Proof of funds ($1,500/month)
  • Proof of health insurance

Campus Access

  • Limited on-campus housing
  • Meal plans available
  • Access to libraries and research centers
  • International student programs
  • Cultural activities

Student Internships

  • Work-based learning experience
  • Reinforce academic program
  • Between 3 weeks and 12 months duration
  • Full-time (at least 32 hours per week)
  • Can be paid or unpaid
  • Internship Fee ($500 or $800, depending on length)
  • Completed on campus with faculty supervision

  • Fee for internships of more than 6 months - $800.00*
