Important Information

Travel Plans

US federal immigration regulations restrict new international students from entering the US more than 30 days before the program start date listed on the I-20 or DS-2019.

I have more than one I-20 or DS-2019

Only enter the information for the school you will attend in the US when paying your SEVIS fee and completing your visa application. Changing schools or documents will cause delays in obtaining a visa and entering the US.

Pay SEVIS I-901 Fee

You must pay a one-time fee of $200USD to the US government before you can obtain an F-1 or J-1 student visa. The SEVIS fee is not a university fee.

Payment can be made:

Keep a copy of your SEVIS fee payment Receipt

Print two copies of your SEVIS fee payment receipt. Keep one copy for yourself and use the other copy for your visa interview.

You should be able to retrieve a copy of your SEVIS fee payment receipt at www.fmjfee.com regardless of your payment method.

Apply for U.S. visa

Information about completing a visa application and scheduling a visa interview is available on the US Department of State website at:

Security Clearances

Some students may be required to pass an additional security check on the visa application. Your visa cannot be issued until the security check has cleared. This may take several weeks to months.

If your delay will result in a deferral of your attendance to the next semester, request a deferral by contacting the appropriate office from the table below.
