The Dodge Family College of Arts and Sciences is launching a new Academic Scholars Program, aimed at honoring our most outstanding undergraduate students with interests in academic pursuits. This initiative will celebrate excellence in scholarship, and a commitment to innovative research among our undergraduate student body and will complement existing research programs for undergraduates at OU.

Overview: The College will grant five Academic Scholars Awards to undergraduate junior students, annually. Nominations will be accepted exclusively through DFCAS Departments and Programs, ensuring a rigorous selection process.

Criteria for Selection: Candidates for an Academic Scholars Award must demonstrate exceptional academic achievement, a record of research or creative activity, potential for innovative research, and a clear intention to pursue a scholarly career. Key selection criteria include a point average of 3.5 or higher, evidence of work in research projects or creative activities, and a demonstrated commitment to advancing knowledge in their field, in alignment with the College’s core mission.

Selection Procedures: DFCAS Departments and Programs will have the opportunity to nominate a maximum of two candidates based on faculty evaluation, student records, and declarations of interest. Each dossier submitted for consideration will include an application cover sheet (please download here), an official transcript, a supporting recommendation letter from a faculty, and a student essay highlighting the nominee's intellectual interests, research projects (completed or under way), and future scholarly plans.

Student Procedures: Students interested in being nominated for an Academic Scholars Award will have to contact their Director of Undergraduate Studies to express interest. If selected as a candidate, the student will be required to submit their dossier to the Director of Undergraduate Studies who will submit a singe PDF file of the top two applications using the link below. If there are any questions, contact Laura Beth Woods (lbwoods@ou.edu) or Georgia Kosmopoulou (georgiak@ou.edu).

Amount of Award: Recipients of the Academic Scholars Program will receive recognition along with a financial award of $3,000.

Academic Scholars Committee: A committee consisting of college faculty will be responsible for evaluating nominees, selecting semi-finalists, conducting Zoom interviews, and ultimately choosing the recipients of the Academic Scholars award.
