The CSWE-accredited online Master of Social Work is a highly desirable degree that offers many advantages to graduates, and completion of the degree allows graduates to apply for licensure in many states (requirements vary by state). Additionally, students have the option of selecting between two program tracks: the Advanced Standing program, for students with an undergraduate degree in social work, and the 60-Credit Hour program, for students with an undergraduate degree in any field.
The curriculum combines online coursework and field training practicums. Practicum placements do not have to be located near the University of Oklahoma’s campuses. Benefits of the Online Master in Social Work include:
Unique Student Experience: The combination of an online format coupled with required field training provides an incredible learning experience. Small class sizes allow for increased engagement and personal attention from faculty. The highly interactive nature of the coursework promotes an environment in which students build their professional networks by collaborating with their classmates and instructors.
Emphasis on Simulations: Students will engage in practical application of the course material, as the curriculum focuses heavily on simulations. Students can apply theories and practice in a safe environment. Social Simulation utilizes trained actors portraying social work clients and is not common in online programs of social work. The simulations will allow learners and faculty to review recorded sessions as well as annotate throughout the recording. Students will be assisted in making appointments with simulated clients to complete and record practice exercises.
Top Faculty with Practical Experience: Instructors are highly engaged with students and provide practical knowledge and experience. Faculty are experienced professional mentors, and many have earned certifications including LCSW, LADC, MINT and ACT.
Combination of Macro and Micro Skills: In addition to broad skills including research methods, advocacy, and evaluations with both individuals and families, students in the Online Master of Social Work have opportunities to focus on more niche areas of practice.
