Build Your Academic Career at OU

From establishing a foundation to building a community to discovering ways to be involved on campus, four current students – Reety Erwin, Juliana Mejia, Leah Pomerantz, and Michael Williams – recently shared what students should look forward to about kicking off their OU careers.

Class of 2021 | Pulic Relations | Tulsa, Oklahoma/Chittagong, Bangladesh

"Starting the higher education journey anywhere sets the tone for the rest of the process. Having a clean start at OU ensures that the rest of one's education would be grounded in a new, supportive community that accepts whoever the student wants to be, especially if they didn't feel fully like themselves in high school. The connection they would make at OU would not only follow them through their college journey but also beyond as they continue through their life."

Class of 2022 | Meteorology | Hinsdale, Illinois

"At OU, there's an incomparable experience of meeting so many new people and exploring all the different possible clubs and activities you could be involved in for the rest of your college career."

Leah Pomerantz

Class of 2022 | Economics and Math | Stratford, New Jersey

"Something that has really stood out to me about OU during these times is how clear communication has been. I have friends from high school at different colleges and universities, and when we talk about what our fall semesters will look like, they're often surprised when I have an answer about what I can expect. OU has risen above and beyond my expectations in telling me what my future is going to look like. That stability is so important when considering the fact that freshman year of college, which is itself a turbulent time with a lot of big changes, is happening during a global pandemic. I can't pretend that this situation won't affect the freshman experience, which truly is a unique time, but I know that this university is doing its best to preserve and protect that experience, while also ensuring that everyone is able to stay safe and healthy."

"At OU, you truly get to build a foundation with professors and staff that can help you later on. When you start at OU and form relationships with people who want to help you, you can better adapt to academic challenges and be more ready for your future at the university."
