Christopher Dixon, a Religious Studies 2022 graduate from Westerville, Ohio, began his OU journey set on the meteorology program. The School of Meteorology, which houses the program, regularly ranks nationally for excellence and is the largest program in the country. Christopher toured countless schools, but OU and the University’s National Weather Center stood out during his college search.
“Since early grade school, I wanted to be a meteorologist, and so going to OU meant that dream would come true,” Christopher said.
But Christopher changed his plans. During his time at OU, he split his studies between meteorology and religious studies classes. In both specializations, Christopher found mentors he could look up to.
“In religious studies, Ms. Lee Green was an awesome advisor who showed that she cared for all of her students,” Christopher said. “In meteorology, Dr. Homeyer was a great professor and a trustworthy person to talk to.”
His coursework in religious studies helped Christopher decide to change his major to religious studies. After making this career-altering decision, Christopher was eligible to finish his bachelor’s degree within three years and began to search for his next step. He found it at the Pontifical College Josephinum, where he would continue his academic studies.
As a devout Catholic, he is on track to complete the prerequisites required for the priesthood, earning a Bachelor of Philosophy in two years, obtain a Master of Divinity, and practice pastoral ministry after four additional years of studying.
“I’ll miss my friends at OU,” Christopher said. “Moving back home to Ohio means that I am far away from everyone I’ve grown so close to over the past few years. I’ll come back to visit them, but it’ll be tough.”
