College of Dentistry

Since its inception in 1971, the College of Dentistry has had a tradition of educating and training students to provide the highest quality of clinical care available. The College of Dentistry has Oklahoma's only Doctor of Dental Surgery program and its Dental Hygiene program is the only Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene degree program in Oklahoma. The programs afford extensive opportunities to learn and develop proficiency through practice in both simulations and patient clinic settings. Graduates develop the knowledge, technical competency, and clinical expertise necessary to assume roles as responsible health care professionals.

Job Outlook

Both dentistry and dental hygiene have favorable employment outlooks. Dentistry claims three of the Top 10 Best Paying Jobs according to US News, with general dentist as #9, orthodontists as #7, and oral & maxillofacial surgeon coming at #1. Dentistry sees an average yearly salary of $189,000. 

Meanwhile, the Bureau of Labor Statistics has projected employment prospects for dental hygiene to remain excellent, being one of the fastest-growing occupations in the country. The median hourly wage for a dental hygienist in 2024 was $42.37 an hour.
