Math Offer/ALEKs and Accuplacer Placement Scores

Reading and English: Accuplacer Scores, Referral, and Placement

If you took concurrent or other courses for college credit while in high school, your assessment requirements may be adjusted. Please submit the official transcript by requesting that the institution where you took the course send an official electronic transcript to oardocuments@ou.edu on your behalf or you can drop off a sealed official copy to Buchanan Hall (1000 Asp Ave), first floor, Admissions & Recruitment, Room 127. If you have specific questions about transferring credit to OU, please call 405-325-0514 or email te@ou.edu. Once your transcript has been received, revision of your assessment needs may be completed.

There are no enrollment restrictions for students with an ACT English sub-score of 19 or higher and/or an SAT Evidence-Based Reading/Writing score of 510 or higher. All incoming OU students who do not meet this threshold are required to take a writing assessment to determine whether they must take a developmental English course before moving on to ENGL 1113.

OU’s writing assessment/placement is given through the College Board’s Accuplacer program. Accuplacer uses web-based assessments designed to evaluate a student’s writing skills and measure a student's understanding of sentence structure, which is what makes a sentence complete and clear. Some questions deal with the logic of the sentence, and others with the relationships between two sentences.

The writing assessment is 25 questions and is untimed, although the average test takes about one hour.

Once you have taken your writing assessment, you can review your course placement below.

Your Accuplacer writing test will be virtually proctored by the University College Assessment Center, via Zoom.  You will schedule your assessment through your New Sooner Orientation registration. If you need to reschedule your English Assessment, click here.

The reading assessment is 20 questions and is untimed, although the average time spent on an attempt is one hour.
